ESO Light Attack Weaving Timeline Guide

What is Light Attack Weaving?

Light Attack Weaving (LA Weaving) is the practice of performing a Light Attack immediately before casting a skill.

In ESO:

  • Most skills are limited by a ~1 second Global Cooldown (GCD).
  • Light Attacks are not locked by the same cooldown.
  • A skill can cancel the Light Attack animation.
  • This allows you to fit both a Light Attack and a Skill into approximately the same 1 second window.

The basic pattern is:

LA → Skill → LA → Skill → LA → Skill

Simple Timeline Example (10 Seconds)

Assuming a skill can be cast once every second:

0.0s LA #1
0.1s Skill #1

1.0s LA #2
1.1s Skill #2

2.0s LA #3
2.1s Skill #3

3.0s LA #4
3.1s Skill #4

4.0s LA #5
4.1s Skill #5

5.0s LA #6
5.1s Skill #6

6.0s LA #7
6.1s Skill #7

7.0s LA #8
7.1s Skill #8

8.0s LA #9
8.1s Skill #9

9.0s LA #10
9.1s Skill #10

Rotation Format

Another way of viewing it:

0.0s LA
0.1s Skill

1.0s LA
1.1s Skill

2.0s LA
2.1s Skill

3.0s LA
3.1s Skill

...

The Important Part

The sequence is:

Light Attack
↓
Skill immediately follows
↓
Skill cancels the Light Attack animation
↓
Wait for the next GCD
↓
Repeat

Not:

Skill
↓
Wait
↓
Light Attack

The Light Attack should happen before every skill whenever possible.

Metronome Method

Many players learn weaving by using a metronome at roughly 120 BPM.

Think of it as:

Beat 1 = Light Attack
Beat 2 = Skill
Beat 3 = Light Attack
Beat 4 = Skill
Beat 5 = Light Attack
Beat 6 = Skill

Rhythm:

LA → Skill → LA → Skill → LA → Skill

Human Timing Example

Real gameplay usually looks more like this:

0.00s LA
0.08s Skill

1.02s LA
1.10s Skill

2.04s LA
2.11s Skill

3.01s LA
3.08s Skill

The exact gap is not important.

What matters is:

  1. The Light Attack registers.
  2. The skill is fired immediately afterwards.
  3. The skill cancels the Light Attack animation.
  4. The next skill is cast on the following GCD.

Quick Rule

Remember:

One Light Attack
+
One Skill
=
One Weave

Over 10 seconds, a perfect weave would look approximately like:

LA1 + Skill1
LA2 + Skill2
LA3 + Skill3
LA4 + Skill4
LA5 + Skill5
LA6 + Skill6
LA7 + Skill7
LA8 + Skill8
LA9 + Skill9
LA10 + Skill10

Result:

LA → Skill → LA → Skill → LA → Skill → LA → Skill

Repeat for the entire fight. ``
